El Salvador is a country known for producing 100% Arabica coffee. Locals cultivate a high proportion of native Bourbon coffee trees and adhere to hand-picking coffee beans. Despite being the smallest country in Central America, El Salvador is one of the most efficient coffee-producing nations globally.

El Salvador boasts numerous volcanoes and highlands, with most coffee farms situated in high-altitude regions. The fertile volcanic soil is rich in minerals, benefiting the growth of coffee trees. Natural canopies shield the coffee plants from the sun and wind. At higher altitudes, the fruits take longer to ripen and have higher sugar content, resulting in coffee with a rich flavor profile and higher density. The coffee beans exhibit balanced acidity and vibrant flavors.

All coffee bushes in El Salvador belong to the Arabica species. Here are some Arabica varieties grown in El Salvador:
    • Bourbon:
The variety is highly regarded for its chocolate and buttery flavors. It boasts superior quality, but due to its lower coffee cherry yield, it often commands a higher price compared to other varieties. Bourbon is named after the island where it was discovered.
    • Pacamara:
A variety developed by the Salvadoran Coffee Research Institute, Pacamara features relatively large beans and intense flavors. Pacamara has garnered a following in the coffee world.
    • Caturra:
Similar to the Bourbon variety, but with lower quality due to higher fruit production from the bushes.
    • Pacas:
This is a natural mutation of the Bourbon variety, and one of the coffee beans used in creating the Pacamara variety.
    • Catuai:

This variety is a hybrid created in Brazil and planted throughout Latin America.
